Andrea Summers...
My american sister...
The oldest daughter of the family who not only sponsored me, while I was
in the US, but also made me feel like a member of their family.
My american family...
Andrea was who taught me my first driving lesson...
It was at night, at "home", in a little town up New York State. I still remember.
She asked me if I knew how to drive. And I told her not.
- Do you want to learn?- She said and I replied "Yes".
Ok, then let's go.
It took me by surprise... Actually it was kind of a shock...
- NOW?...
Why not?
-Oook....
In the car I told her again. "I have never drove before... Are you sure about
this?"
-it's not that difficult...
And encouraged by her words I decided to give it a try...
-"Now: The one by your right is the gas... The one by your left is the brake.
This is an automatic car so you dont need to shift gears"...
Take notice that at this time my English was not as good as now, so none
of this made sense for me...
.......So... How this goes again???....
Thanks God she has a lot of patience. Like a whole lot... At least with
Peruvians....
The one at the left is to stop, the other one is to move the car around...
Ohhh.. I see.....
So we went aroud a parking place. It was quite funny to see me trying to
drive... and she trying not to show how scare she was...
STOP!!!!... GO!!!... STOOOOOOOOOP!
Press Gas! I mean, go!....
It was quite funny... specially cuz after going around the parking place,
it so relief it was finally over... And she said:
- That was not bad, we will do it again sometime ok?
"Sure! take your time.... No rush" - I replied...
Though I bet she was as much scare as I, she didn't show it. I heard from
others that when one is learning to drive he can hardly wait for his next
time behind the wheel.
Just like everything in my life, I didnt fit in the usual standars...
Now I can drive, automatic and standar. And thanks God so far I haven't got
in any mayor accident. Well I hit a stone pole not long ago, but that was
not an accident that was a stupidity...:)
Now I just got a Canadian Driving license. I pass both test and thanks God
I can now drive just like any of you...
from my heart, thanks Andrea...
I miss you, my american sister.
