...Después, hemos concinado una buena comida de cosas de Estados Unidos para nuestras familias españoles. Ahora te dejo. Cuentame algo. Hasta luego. Dios te bendiga.
Steve McCarthy

Just call him abuelo. ( grandpa )

- why?

Cuz he is one of the youth leaders, and also sometimes he
behaves like he was a senior citizen.

Abuela?

- No, abuelo... Abuela means Grandma...

ABUELA!!!!

- Oh great... Who the heck told this gringos to call me abuelo....

GRINGOS!!!!!

- Abuela!!!

- Oh dear... These are gonna be two long weeks...

Friends are friends for ever...
This group came in 97, from New York. When they came my English wasn't as good as now... They thought calling me abuela was fun... I thought I was weird.
The worked in a area called Canto Grande.
We had two weeks, full of joy, games, jokes, misunderstood... and tears. Among clowns, rice and chicken, soccer games, etc. Although, we could barely understood each other, we got  alone really good. In this group also came Victor, a guy that came the year before. So far, he is the only AIMer I know that has come twice to Peru. unfortunately I lost contact with him on '98....
I remember...
A bus with a guy named Felipe.
... Someone writing the word abuela in my sneakers...
A girl with a funny cap... that she never  took it off which made us wonder if she ever did shower while she was in Peru...
... A guy that barely talked while in Peru, and up to now he barely does, but we have become close friends....
....tears....
Carman songs.... kids smiling. A wedding being  held near where they were staying... Someone sneaking out so a few of us could meet and talk for  a while...
more tears...
A last service... A communion service. A song.... Friends for ever... tears... Someone gave me something I still keep while another one gave me a candy bar I ate as soon as he left...
A last bye....
And again... tears... The last ones...
The end of two weeks of work. The beginning of a new friendship that will last....
A few still remember  as much as I do and even more....
they were a group of 33. Today I keep in touch with three of them: Steve, Nikki and Jamie.
In August 2000 Jamie Gofmanas, join this group.

Most of them live in a town called Bimghamsomething I still cant spell... But thanks Good somehow my letters don get lost....

Steve McCarthy: This guy is awesome, Anytime I can I try to go to his house. He is really cool though he does not talk too much, and if you wanna call him, I recommend you not to cuz he barely talks in the phone, he writes more. It has been more than three years since we met, a nd everyday our friendship grows stronger. He is the kinda person that does not talk too much but the few times he does, he always says good things. Well, not always... he thinks he's good at soccer.... He is leaving to Spain pretty soon, he is going there to learn Spanish and to become a matador. ( bullfighter ) Good luck Steve, my prayers are with you, and watch out for the beautiful señoritas...

Nikki Rollo: Nikki... There is lots of things I can write about her. In the two years that I was there I only saw her twice, anytime we try to see each other it never works, she is in a Bible College now. From here I wish her the best.

Jaime Gofmanas:

Somehow, out of nowhere one day I got this e-mail from someone who said it was Jaime... I have met several Jamies, so it was kinda of confusing... But as soon as she called me ABUELA.... My memories, came back... and Jamie's name became familiar to me.
And I am so glad she still remembers me and that trip she did some years ago.
I think she is one of the few that still keeps in touch with the ones she met in Peru. She and Pepe,( one of the national's team members, and also my brothers best friend ) still keep in touch and their friendship has grow stronger with the time. Jamie, thanks, for you are one of the few that after all this years, still remember...
Welcome back Jamie. Now you are also a part of my memories. Your name now is a part of my web page and your memories, a part of my heart.
I have no pics of her but as soon as I get some I will add a link to her name.

Here are some words from Jamie: Added on Sunday March 25th '01.

Epilogue:

Last time I forgot to mention Kim Seaman. She is in love with an Argentinean guy, though she doesn't wanna admit it. She and Steve are like close friends. Last time we hang out together, we had a lot of fun. Here there are many that are not mentioned, like Bob, Nick, Eldrigde, ( not sure about spelling) Kim, Gina,  Josh, Susan, Angela, Jean, etc. I haven't heard from them in a while so there is not much I can say about them.

I remeber u, abuelo -abuela LOL
